Mid Tier. Ironically the exact opposite problem of Scotland. Egypt: Similar to the Turks, only 2 options named (Royal) Mamluks. Thankfully they both have AP so that gives them a slight edge there. They also have light cavalry in the form of Arab Cavalry and 2 sorts of ranged cav. So you can field decent cav early on.
Like half archers (the ones that can deploy stakes), about six horse archers, small amount of heavy cav and infantry. Deploy the archers well ahead of your other forces, and when the battle starts, drop the stakes. Have the archers retreat back to your main force.
The Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire has one of the strongest rosters in the early campaign, with excellent heavy infantry, good archers, and strong options in both heavy and skirmish cavalry. Be warned; while the Empire has strong units in many areas, quite a few options require high-level buildings or have very high upkeep costs.

thebigbenman 12 years ago #4. there's no battle being fought in auto resolve. the computer will take your stack and the enemy's stack and fight them unit-by-unit, in order from left to right, winner moves on to fight the next unit, etc. it seems to pretend it's all close range melee and rely on those stats, so heavy armored infantry do great
